“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” ~1 Cor. 6:19-20
Contrary to popular belief our bodies do not belong to us! You may be thinking to yourself what does that mean? How could I not be the owner of my own body? Who else could possibly be bold enough to claim ownership rights to my property? Well since you asked, I might as well tell you. According to the Bible in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 19-20, every person who has claimed belief in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior has voluntarily become God’s property. The blood of Jesus has paid the price for our sins enabling us to be restored back to full communion with God. The reality is, whatever spiritual entity we open up our hearts to will consequently take residence in our bodies. Our bodies were designed by God to be fully inhabited by the Holy Spirit who empowers us to be Christ like. As we submit daily to His instructions and gentle leading, we gradually conform to the image of Christ and are renewed in our minds. As our minds are renewed, so are the thoughts we produce which in turn govern our actions. It is crucial that we do not treat our bodies casually as if they are not worth the the blood Jesus shed for them. Moreover, Jesus died so that not only we could live, but so that He could live in and through us by way of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we work to do to upkeep and not mistreat our temple. In 2020, we command sexual immorality, obesity, uncleanliness, bad hygiene, mutilations, strange piercings, sickness and disease to flee our temples in Jesus name. We have no more vacancy left because Jesus taken up all the room.
